A Thanksgiving morning crash in Cherokee County claimed the life of former Creekview High volleyball star Alivia Mynes and her father, a FOX 5 Atlanta report said.
Mynes and her father, 52-year-old Chris Mynes, were remembered for their impact on those around them.
"Alivia was loved by many and will be remembered for her kind, sweet, beautiful spirit," the Creekview volleyball team posted on Facebook recently. "Chris was a devoted father to his two daughters and the love of Jennifer’s life."
Alivia, 18, had just finished her freshman season at Bryan College in Tennessee and was home in Canton visiting her family for the holiday when the early-morning wreck occurred, also injuring at least two others; the FOX 5 report said.
Chris Mynes' wife, Jennifer, and their youngest daughter, Sydney, were also injured in the crash that later hospitalized them; the report said. Authorities noted that Jennifer Mynes is a substitute teacher at nearby Creekland Middle School, while Sydney is a junior volleyball player there. Both are expected to recover.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies were called to the scene of the four-vehicle crash near Knox Bridge Highway and Scott Hudgens Drive just before noon. The deputies said the driver of an F-150 truck heading east crossed the center line and struck the Mynes' SUV.
A friend of the family has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the Mynes family's expenses.
