The Atlanta Regional Commission has recognized Gwinnett County with a Regional Excellence Award in the Visionary Planning category for its 2045 Unified Plan. The award highlights the county's innovative approach to creating a vibrant and connected community that can adapt to future growth.
The 2045 Unified Plan is designed as a strategic guide for Gwinnett’s development over the next two decades, focusing on key areas such as transit, housing, public spaces, and economic growth. Developed with extensive community feedback, the plan aims to enhance daily life for residents while supporting responsible growth.
“This plan reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming Gwinnett for everyone who lives and works here,” stated Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “We’re building a place where people can thrive with access to opportunities right where they are. Receiving this award from the Atlanta Regional Commission shows that Gwinnett is on the right path toward a stronger future.”
The plan emphasizes accessible transit options, affordable housing, and expanded public spaces, prioritizing inclusivity and sustainability to meet the needs of Gwinnett’s diverse communities.
Gwinnett Planning and Development Director Matt Dickison highlighted the local impact of the plan. “Our goal was to craft a strategy that is authentic to the daily life for our residents. This plan brings Gwinnett’s resources a little closer, making life more connected and convenient,” said Dickison. “With this roadmap, we’re making intentional choices to improve transportation, housing and public spaces.”
The annual Regional Excellence Awards program honors projects that support metropolitan Atlanta’s goals for sustainability, accessibility, and quality of life.
